The EcoRecovery (EkoKazanım)– Waste Valorization and Conversion Center Inaugurated

The EcoRecovery – Waste Valorization and Conversion Center, established with the goal of contributing to global efforts for a sustainable future and regarded as a concrete reflection of the University's vision to develop, apply, and promote environmentally friendly technologies, has been opened.

 

The opening program held at our University’s Vocational School of Technical Sciences was attended by our Rector Prof. Dr. Osman Nuri Çelik, our Vice-Rector and Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences Prof. Dr. Ali Köken, Vice Deans Prof. Dr. Esra Yel and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Gürol Önal, Director of the Vocational School of Technical Sciences Prof. Dr. Mustafa Altın, Director of the Institute of Graduate Studies Prof. Dr. Mevlüt Uyan, Vice President of the Turkish Environment Agency (TÜÇA) Prof. Dr. Mehmet Yüce, Provincial Director of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change Fatih Ayaz, as well as academic and administrative staff and students.

 

KONYA TECHNICAL UNIVERSITY ASSUMES A LEADING ROLE IN SUSTAINABILITY

 

In his speech, our Rector Prof. Dr. Osman Nuri Çelik stated that the center would contribute to the implementation and dissemination of environmentally sensitive technologies, saying: "We take great pride in taking part as Konya Technical University among the efforts carried out for a sustainable future globally. Our EcoRecovery Center bears the quality of being an important example that highlights ecological and economic gains within a scientific framework."

 

AN IMPORTANT STEP FOR A SUSTAINABLE FUTURE

 

Prof. Dr. Esra Yel, one of the academic supervisors of the center, drew attention in her speech to the fact that there is much to be done in the field of waste valorization and conversion for a sustainable world. She emphasized that this center aims to increase sustainability consciousness and awareness in society by demonstrating exemplary applications to the community while simultaneously converting waste.

 

Subsequently, Mehmet Emre Sarı, who was a student at the Technical High School that produced the devices in the center at the time and is now a student at our university, shared the feelings and thoughts evoked by witnessing the use of the devices he labored over during their production at the university today. He described the opportunities the center will offer to young people and touched upon the importance of works geared towards environmental sensitivity.

 

Participating in the ceremony on behalf of TÜÇA, one of the most important stakeholders in the establishment of the EcoRecovery Center, Vice President Prof. Dr. Mehmet Yüce touched upon the importance of such works for both science and society, emphasizing that our University is an exemplary university taking an important step in this regard. Prof. Dr. Mehmet Yüce provided information about the current works and transformation-oriented projects of the Turkish Environment Agency and expressed his belief that this established center will provide a valuable contribution to both Konya and the region, and will put its signature on many projects and collaborations.

 

Following the speeches, the EcoRecovery – Waste Valorization and Conversion Center was opened for service with a ribbon-cutting ceremony. Protocol members and participants toured the center and received information about the work being done, the technical infrastructure, and educational applications.
