Mobilization for Zero Waste Awareness at Our University

Our university's Zero Waste Commission conducted "Zero Waste Awareness Training" for cleaning and waste collection personnel, aiming to prevent waste, increase efficiency through a clean environment, and reduce environmental risks. An informative training video was also sent to students to raise awareness.

The training, which included staff, aimed to raise staff awareness of zero waste and establish a sustainable waste management system across campus. The training, held simultaneously in three separate sessions at the Gelişim Campus, the Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences (FENS), and the Vocational School of Technical Sciences (TBMYO), was delivered by academics from the Zero Waste Management Commission.

Contributions to the work carried out under the leadership of Commission Chair Assoc. Prof. Dr. Merve Kalem were made by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Kiraz Eşmeli, Dr. Lecturer Seçil Tutar Öksüz, Dr. Lecturer Gamze Göktepeli, Res. Asst. Müberra Nur Kılıçarslan, Res. Asst. Aleyna Bayatlı, and Musa Canpolat from the Department of Administrative and Financial Affairs.

To promote zero-waste awareness not only among staff but also among students, the university shared an informative video following the training. This video aimed to guide students on a range of topics, from proper waste separation and recycling processes to sustainable consumption habits on campus.

The "Zero Waste" tab on our university website stands out as a concrete demonstration of the institutional importance placed on this issue. Through this tab, students and staff can easily access campus zero waste policies, current activities, informative materials, and recycling location information.

Our Rector, Prof. Dr. Osman Nuri Çelik, made a statement on the subject: “The Zero Waste Project is not only an environmentally sensitive practice; it is also a requirement of our responsibility to leave a cleaner and more liveable world for the future. As a university, we prioritize raising awareness of this issue among both our staff and students. Through training, informative content, and campus-wide initiatives, we aim to establish a sustainable waste management system. The awareness training programs we conduct are important steps toward this goal. With the support of all our academic and administrative staff, we will continue our university's commitment to becoming an environmentally sensitive, exemplary university.”
