Students from the Jewelry and Jewelry Design Program of the Handicrafts Department at Konya Technical University Vocational School of Technical Sciences participated in an important sectoral event to enhance their professional knowledge and skills. As part of a technical visit conducted under the guidance of academic staff members Lecturer Abdurrahman Ruşen, Lecturer Özgür Kanat, and Lecturer Aday Gürkan, the students visited the IJS Istanbul Jewelry Show.

 

At the fair, held at the Istanbul Expo Center and recognized as one of the world’s leading jewelry exhibitions, students had the opportunity to observe current developments in the sector on-site, explore different design approaches, and gain knowledge about production techniques. By meeting with both national and international experts in the field, students were able to relate their theoretical knowledge to practical applications and broaden their sectoral perspectives.

 

Within the scope of the technical visit, a workshop on the art of filigree was conducted by Lecturer Aday Gürkan. In this hands-on session, which attracted great interest, the intricacies of the filigree technique—an important element of traditional handicrafts—were introduced to the participants. While students had the opportunity to experience this unique art form firsthand, the event also aimed to increase their professional awareness and establish direct engagement with the industry.
