Important Institutions and Organizations Came Together in the Workshop on 'Properties of Bauxite and Red Sludge and Enrichment of Critical Elements'

The workshop of the project "Characteristics of Bauxite and Red Mud and Enrichment of Critical Elements" undertaken by our faculty member of the Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences, Department of Geological Engineering, Prof. Dr. Muazzez Çelik Karakaya, which is considered to have strategic importance for Turkey and believed to contribute to the economy, brought together important institutions from public and private sectors.

The event, which took place in two sessions, project manager Prof. Dr. Muazzez Çelik Karakaya provided information about the project named "Investigation of Gain Parameters by Determining Rare Earth Elements and Some Critical/Strategic Element Contents in Bauxite Red Mud and Red Soils in the Seydişehir-Akseki Region" and talked about the importance of the project. Along with TENMAK researchers, academicians from Necmettin Erbakan University and academicians from our University made presentations about the studies and the project.

Our Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences, Geological Engineering Faculty Member, and also our vice-rector Prof. Dr. Muazzez Çelik Karakaya stated that “Red mud, which is a waste product after the production process around Seydişehir, is a potential raw material rich in critical raw materials. Researches on the recovery of rare earth elements (REE) are carried out in various parts of the world. The originality of the project is the enrichment of some strategic elements in bauxite and red soils in addition to red mud. With the results to be obtained after the studies, it will be possible to obtain results for the exploration, enrichment and production of other critical elements in similar soils, waste material, which are common in Turkey. "Such studies, the acquisition of strategic elements, the supply of strategic raw materials from national resources will make significant contributions to the country's economy and defense industry," she said. Expressing that the event was productive, our Faculty Member thanked everyone who supported the project and contributed to the realization of the event.

Mineral Research and Exploration, Eti Mining Enterprises, Konya Plain Project, Regional Development Administration, Turkish Energy, Nuclear and Mining Research Institute, Rare Earth Elements Research Institute and ETİ Aluminum Inc. attended the event that brought together important institutions and organizations from the public and private sectors. Our project partner Karamanoğlu Mehmetbey University also contributed to the event, and Necmettin Erbakan University and our university's academicians from various engineering fields showed interest in the workshop.
