Great Success from KTÜN at TEKNOFEST

In TEKNOFEST 2024, Turkey's largest technology festival, Konya Technical University (KTÜN) has achieved a great success. KTÜN once again showed its power in the field of technology and innovation by winning a total of 9 awards, including 3 first place, 1 second place, 2 third place and 3 in different categories.

SANCAKTAR, GÖRÜŞNET and UAC-Team SGM were among the first prize winning teams. The SANCAKTAR team drew attention with its innovative UAV platform and control centre design. The system they designed was highly appreciated as an advanced platform capable of carrying triple-mission UAVs at the same time. SANCAKTAR team was led by Research Assist. Muhammet Mustafa Tozlu, Team Supervisor Mehmet Doğan Uyanık, Team Members Lecturer. Mehmet Celalettin Ergene, Murathan Acı, Abdulmelik Göymen, Mustafa Dirican and Muhammet Sait Yılmaz won the first prize as well as the TAI special award and the first prize for consultancy.

The SIGHTNET project is a revolution in chemical and materials engineering. The team has developed a new chemical coating material for glass surfaces that penetrates at the micro level and provides hydrophobic (water repellent) properties. This innovative material has the potential to be used in many areas of industry. Buse Tuna, the owner of the project, which was supervised by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mehmet Gürsoy from KTÜN Chemical Engineering, was awarded for her successful work.

Another winning team, UAC-Team SGM, came to the fore with their project in which five unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) communicated with each other in a synchronised manner to carry out their missions. The team was judged deserving of the award because of the UAVs' well-coordinated and efficient work. The team members, including captain Uğur Taşkuyu, vice-captain Selahattin Can Aydın, software developers Ahmet Melih Şenol, Tuğba Arıyan and Emine Adatepe, and mechanic Osman Konkan, won the first prize.

As for the third prizes, Dr. Lecturer from the Department of Mapping Engineering Prof. Dr. Behlül Numan Özdemir from the Department of Surveying Engineering, EfsunTek Team members Aysel Banu Tekdamar, Barış Kokulu, Makbule Zehra Özetçi came third with their technological solutions in the Smart WiFi Coverage Area Competition. In addition, Serhat Yapıcı took the third place in the individual Pardus Bug Catching and Suggestion Competition.

RACLAB SIGUN team competed in the Autonomous-Ready Vehicle category of the Robotaxi Passenger Autonomous Vehicle competition. During the competition, the team successfully passed the ‘Technical Control Phase’ by testing the autonomous driving algorithms with the sustainable micro vehicles of Beemobs company and made it to the final stage. With this success, it ranked 2nd among 16 teams in the ‘Autonomous-Ready Vehicle’ category.

The AI Lab – NPC AI Team won the Innovative Software Award at the Artificial Intelligence in Transportation Competition. The team, led by Captain Nurullah Kurnaz, included members Hikmet Eren İşaşır, Muhammed Bedir Ağdemir, and Seyyit Mehmet Selvi. They worked under the guidance of Assoc.
