Our University Ranked 15th in Türkiye and Entered the Top 10% in SCImago Institutional Rankings
The results of the SCImago Institutions Rankings (SIR) 2026, in which 5,491 universities were evaluated globally, have been announced. In this ranking, which assesses universities and research institutions worldwide based on multidimensional criteria, our University stood out by ranking 15th among 152 universities evaluated from Türkiye in the field of innovation.
KTÜN ranked 10th in Türkiye, 21st in the Middle East, and in the 40th percentile worldwide in the innovation indicator within the universities sector comparison. When all sectors were evaluated together, it was positioned in the 51st percentile worldwide, 56th among OECD countries, 25th in the Middle East, and 12th in Türkiye. In the universities sector comparison, Konya Technical University demonstrated a strong international presence by ranking in the 59th percentile worldwide, 46th in the Middle East, and 61st in Türkiye in the overall ranking.
Prepared by the Spain-based SCImago Research Group, the SCImago Institutions Rankings go beyond traditional rankings by evaluating universities not only based on academic publication performance but also on their capacity to produce innovation and transform it into societal benefit. In this context, institutions are assessed under three main categories: research performance, innovation capacity, and societal impact. The innovation indicator, in particular, is based on concrete criteria such as patent production, technology development capacity, industry collaborations, and the economic impact of R&D outputs. Accordingly, KTÜN demonstrates that it possesses a strong infrastructure capable of transforming scientific knowledge into practical applications and added value.
In recent years, Konya Technical University has stood out with its applied research approach, strong collaborations with industry, and technology-oriented projects. With this performance, it has solidified its position among the top institutions in Türkiye’s innovation ecosystem. Being ranked within the top 10% in innovation among universities in Türkiye serves as a concrete indicator of this achievement.
In his statement, our Rector Prof. Dr. Osman Nuri Çelik said, “In the coming period, we aim to further strengthen our innovation and R&D-focused efforts and rise to higher positions in both national and global rankings. The SIR 2026 results demonstrate that Konya Technical University has shown strong performance particularly in innovation and has the potential to advance this performance further in the dimensions of research and societal impact.”
