42nd Engineering Deans Council Meeting was hosted by KTUN

The 42nd Engineering Deans Council Meeting was hosted by the Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences at Konya Technical University (KTUN). The event was attended by Prof. Dr. Hasan Mandal, Rector of Istanbul Technical University, Prof. Dr. Mehmet Durman, Rector of Yeditepe University, as well as the deans and vice deans from 59 universities.

 

The event started with opening speeches to exchange views on the challenges facing engineering education in our country. The discussions focused on developing recommendations to ensure the effective and efficient delivery of engineering education and exploring strategies to implement these suggestions.

 

In his address, Prof. Dr. Osman Nuri Çelik, Rector of Konya Technical University, stated: “I am deeply honored to convene on such a valuable platform dedicated to advancing and developing our country in the field of engineering. Engineering is a driving force that not only underpins technological progress but also shapes the welfare, sustainability, and security of societies. The role and contributions of engineering faculties in this process are undeniable. I sincerely believe that the work carried out in our universities, driven by the commitment of our esteemed deans to these goals, will elevate the technical capabilities of our country to greater heights. I trust that the ideas and decisions we collectively put forth will significantly contribute to the advancement of engineering education and the broader development of our society.”

 

In his speech, Prof. Dr. Mustafa Muammer Demir, Secretary General of the Council of Engineering Deans, stated: “This platform provides an invaluable opportunity to contribute to the academic development of our universities. I believe that every perspective shared here will enrich the institutional identity and academic foundation of our universities. I extend my heartfelt thanks to KTUN Rector Prof. Dr. Osman Nuri Çelik and our esteemed academicians for facilitating this gathering today.”

 

In his speech, Prof. Dr. Ali Köken, Dean of KTÜN Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences, expressed his pleasure at attending the 42nd Engineering Deans Council Meeting. He stated: "I am delighted to be here with you today. This significant meeting offers a valuable opportunity to advance engineering education and research, strengthen inter-university cooperation, and discuss the latest developments in the field. I am confident that we will have a productive day focused on engineering. I hope this meeting serves as a platform to enhance collaboration in engineering, inspire new projects, and foster more effective communication among our universities."

 

Following the opening speeches, Prof. Dr. Hasan Mandal, Rector of Istanbul Technical University, delivered a presentation titled "Situation Assessment in the Science, Technology, and Innovation Ecosystem: Challenges, Potentials, and Opportunities." This was followed by a presentation by Yeditepe University Rector Prof. Dr. Mehmet Durman on "Quality Assurance and Quality Culture in Higher Education."

 

The event, which featured day-long sessions, aimed to foster the development of a more effective quality management framework among universities. It provided participants with a comprehensive understanding of strategies to enhance education quality and achieve sustainable improvements in teaching and research processes.

 

The Engineering Deans' Council Meeting, comprising the deans of engineering faculties from universities in Turkey and the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, is hosted by a different university each year. It serves as a platform for sharing experiences and enhancing communication among engineering deans.

 

At this year’s council, hosted by Konya Technical University, not only the university’s progress in science and technology but also its notable achievements in culture and art took center stage. In this context, participants visited the Mixed Exhibition of the Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences, which showcased over 50 works of art created by the staff and their relatives from the Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences.

 

After a productive first day, the event concluded with a city tour of Konya on the second day.
