Medium of Instruction: Turkish

Brief History: The Department of Environmental Engineering was established in 1992 and graduated its first students in 1996. The evening education program began in 2010 and ended after a set period of time. The department's laboratories cover basic operations, environmental chemistry, environmental microbiology, gas chromatography, wastewater analysis and research, wastewater treatment, environmental technology, and science laboratories. Our engineering department was one of the first in Türkiye to be accredited.

Admission Requirements: In order to be admitted to Environmental Engineering Department of the Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences of Konya Technical University, the candidates are required

  • to be a high school or high school equivalent vocational school graduate (the equivalence of diplomas obtained from foreign high schools must be approved by the Ministry of National Education),
  • to have the right to enroll in the Environmental Engineering Department of the Faculty of Engineering of Konya Technical University through the central placement system or the Foreign Student Exam as a result of the Student Selection Exam in that academic year,
  • to have the score and conditions valid for that academic year,
  • to bring the documents specified in the OSYM guide for registration,
  • not to have been registered in another higher education institution except Open Education.

Recognition of Prior Learning: The Adaptation Commission, comprised of two academicians and one lecturer, is in charge of course counting, selection, and follow-up for students admitted to our department via lateral and vertical transfers. This commission assesses students' prior learning in relation to the department curriculum and determines equivalence. In accordance with the provisions of the Regulation on the Principles of Transfer between Associate Degree and Undergraduate Degree Programs in Higher Education Institutions, Double Major, Minor, and Inter-Institutional Credit Transfers, the commission accepts students for lateral transfers from the undergraduate level to our department, as well as for double major and minor programs among other departments of our university.

Graduation Requirements: The Regulation of Konya Technical University Education-Training and Examination is applied in our department's graduation process, regarding specifically items numbered as 17, 18, and 23. The system works like this: Our students must complete their undergraduate education in a maximum of seven years. Registration freeze periods are not considered when calculating the education period. Students in their final year who are unable to graduate by the end of these periods are given the option of taking an additional exam. Students who do not pay their tuition fee twice in a row without an excuse, or who do not pay the second tuition fee within one month of the spring semester registration renewal period, are dropped from their classes. After successfully completing all of the courses, applications, and first and second cycle internship studies in the education program, students in our department receive their undergraduate diploma.

Principles of Assessment and Evaluation: The Education and Examination Regulation of Konya Technical University is used to assess student success in our department. As a result, the lecturer in charge of the course determines the student's success in a course after the Final/Make-up exam based on the letter grade given by considering the sum of 40% of the midterm exam grade and 60% of the final/make-up exam grade. A letter grade of at least CC is required for a student to be considered successful in a course. The letter grades and coefficients, as well as the letter meanings, are as follows: 82-100 / AA / 4.00, 74-81 / BA / 3.50, 65-73 / BB / 3.00, 58-64 / CB / 2.50, 50-57 / CC / 2.00, 40-49 / DC / 1.50, 35-39 / DD / 1.00, 25-34 / FD / 0.50, 0-24 / AA, BA, BB, CB, CC, “successful”; DC, “successful up to six courses, otherwise unsuccessful”; DD, FD, FF, “unsuccessful”; F, “ineligible to take the final/make-up exam due to absenteeism or application failure”.

Employment Opportunities: According to the results of a survey conducted for our graduates, the employment rate of our graduates is greater than 85%. Consulting firms, engineering design firms, ministries, and municipalities are the most common places to work.

Transition to Higher Degree Programs: Candidates who have successfully completed their undergraduate education in our department are eligible to enroll in graduate programs in their own or related fields if they have received valid Academic Personnel and Postgraduate Education Entrance Exam (ALES) grades and have sufficient English language knowledge. Furthermore, if they meet the requirements of the relevant institution, they can pursue postgraduate studies at various universities around the world.
