The history of Konya Technical University Faculty of Architecture and Design dates back to 1970.
The oldest department of our faculty, the Department of Architecture, first started its education
in a building belonging to the Konya Social Services and Child Protection Agency (behind Gazi
High School) in the 1970-1971 academic year with the title of Konya State Architecture and
Engineering Academy.
In 1982, Selcuk University integrated Konya State Architecture and Engineering Academy under
the administration of the Faculty of Engineering and Architecture.
The Department of Urban and Regional Planning, the second department in the faculty's
sequence of founding, was established in 1994.
Until 2012, Departments of Architecture and Urban and Regional Planning continued their
education within the Faculty of Engineering and Architecture of Selçuk University.
In 2012, these departments were separated from the Faculty of Engineering and Architecture of
Selçuk University and were established as a two-part boutique faculty under the name of Faculty
of Architecture, under the leadership of the founding dean Prof. Dr. Ahmet Alkan.
In 2012, Departments of Architecture and Urban and Regional Planning were established, and in
2018, Konya Technical University was established as a new university in Konya, with the seventh
article of the law numbered 7141 published in the Official Gazette dated 18.05.2018 and
numbered 30425, and the Additional Article added to the law numbered 2809. with -179. A third
was added to the state universities in Konya, under the founding rectorate of Prof. Dr. Babür
Özçelik. In this process, the Faculty of Architecture within Selçuk University was transferred to
this newly established university. The name of the faculty under the name of Konya Technical
University was changed to the Faculty of Architecture and Design.
As of 2020, Interior Architecture and Industrial Product Design Departments have been added to
the Faculty of Architecture and Design of Konya Technical University.
